A little update
Gay Gary!
Achievments
I actually don't have any greater achievments yet.
Stopped smoking totally four days ago.
Walking down to the boat to get to work daily as usual.
The only one who officially has entered the Birkenbeinerrittet! No turning back now!
Setbacks
Still haven't recieved my bike. Mailed the company today, and hopefully I'll have a bike soon.
Fell for the trick that there actually was a separate race for foreigners, or swedish people... Some friends Terry and Frank are!
Terrified that Terry and Frank won't enter the race.
Otherwise, I've just started following a training program, that I will try to follow 3 times a week. First month will be soooo hard on my poor body! But It'll work out just fine =)
A little update.
Long time sice we added content here so Ill give a short update:
Freaking Frank!
Achievements:
Have not smoked for almost two months now.
Started biking to work. (3.2km downhill to work and 3.2 uphill with wind resistance to get home)
Also running a 3.5km long stretch 3 times a week.
Setbacks:
Just had my front teethes removed and replaced with some funky plastic which renders me unable to consume meat and most other food products I actually enjoy eating. So 14 ish days with soft boring food ahead. Yei!
Also, after spending countless working hours researching I have finally picked out my new bicycle. Just ehm, 1100€ to go and its mine!
TinyTerry!
Alrighty, a small update from me as well...
Achievements:
Stopped smoking for almost a month
Power-walking to work, as my bike is not exactly 100 % yet....
Like Frank, I am also running 3 times a week (Well, first week of running has just started)
Status on bike: Well, if you read the previous post, I had som ehrm... mechanical issues with my bike. I have invested some money in tools and moved the bike from my old apartment to my new apartment to fix it. Somehow, somewhere along the road I managed to lose the bolt keeping the crank in place, so it is still without one pedal (Yes, not a big deal, but I am too lazy to find and buy one at the moment).
Popular events….
Written by Tiny Terry
Tickets for the ski race and some tickets for the mountainbike race were put up for sale today. This caused the servers to break down. The popularity of these events is insane. Last year, they put up 6000 tickets on general sale for the bicycle race, these were sold out within 66 seconds.
On a different note, I finally got my bike that I am going to use over the winter. Not the best bike, but should be sufficient to get me started. The bike got assembled and everything was in place for me to get on with my training! I arranged to meet Frank at a gas station to do some fine tuning on the bike. It felt GOOD to get on the bike.... Everything went great, until I came down to Olympia Stadium.... My freaking crank fell off, and to make it worse this happened just in front of a beautiful girl waiting at the bus stop. Trying to keep my appearance, I rolled out of sight and had to try to fix the crank without any tools....

Crank/pedal fell off, and I have no idea on how to fix it
Frank came and of course almost died of laughter. We decided to roll the bike back to my place to try and fix it. After a little bit of trying and failing, I thought I had fixed it, but realized after a few metres that the whole crank were about to fall off again. It is still not quite OK, since I need to get some tools to get it fixed.
Soon, I’ll have a bike to!

Ok, it's official!
I just won my auction for a KS1800M Mountain Bike, for 860 skr. So now 'll just pay for it and wait until it arrives! Before you know it, we will be mountain bike gods! (Or at least good enough to stay alive).

Here's a pic of the beauty!
Also, I would like to take the moment to mention that Terry, has made the decision to stop smoking, when his new bike is delivered! Myself decided to go stone cold yesterday, and have now had 2 non-smoking days. I believe that Frank is still going strong on that particular area!
Besides all this, I just want to mention that the Fårikål was AWESOME. Ate what was left of it today! Have a good one people!
Kick off!
Written by Tiny Terry
As said in an earlier post, we were going to have a big meeting this weekend to discuss further details of our little project. We decided to do it over a good old traditional Norwegian dinner, Fårikål!
It all started pretty good, we went to buy the ingredients needed for our dinner:
Cabbage
Lamb meat
Whole pepper
Salt
Potatoes
We then went to Väla to look at some bikes at Sportsson bikes, and found some bikes which were pretty cool and suitable (weird how expensive things are when you are out scouting like this). Later we went to Burger King to get some Angry Whopper and awesome chili cheese (need to store some energy before our training).
Making the fårikål was pretty easy, and it had to cook for around 2-3 hours, our opportunity to discuss our plans for the race!

fårikål in the making
But as always, its easy to get a little bit side tracked. It turns out that Tottenham Hotspur were playing against Bolton this afternoon, and of course, I had to watch this. Gary had also received Need For Speed Shift as a birthday present, and the other two had to try this out.
Suddenly our guests arrived, just in time for some more Playstation 3 and our awesome dinner. Nothing beats great beer with fårikål, and it was time for us to store some more energy!

aaaah... Fårikål... NAM!
Now that we have discovered our hidden talents in cooking, we will try to do this more often and include it in our blog.
Hopefully, my bike will arrive later this week, and Gary's might be on his way as well.
Let the training begin!
PS! I just found out that Frank manages to cheat on cointossing at work, so we all should keep an extra eye on him during the race.
Gary’s background story…
Ok, so here it is.
For some reason, two dudes sitting at work gets the brilliant idea to take on the Birkenbeinerrittet.
Sitting in a completly different location, I get the question if I wanna join in. Gettin a crappy image on the course and the info it's about 100 km, I think for myself, hey, that's no biggie!, so of course I agree to take on the task.
A week later, when my two compatriots has arranged the first blog, I actually take a good look on the damn thing and see that it's all uphill.
Telling Terry and Frank that we will die after the first part of the course. They agree but we also agree that there is no turning back now!
Considering my mom always thinking I would die in a bicykle accident when I was a kid, Frank hit a damn construction vehicle loosing his front teeth, and Terry riding into walls in his earlier biking carrier, this can only be a success!

There is a big risk this will be us in august 2010
Flashback by Freaking Frank.
After we started this project some people have come to remember a "less" fortunate experience i had on a bike. I recon these facts wont go away and small internal remarks will be made so here it is:
This was early a Monday morning when I was around 14 years old, I was very sleepy and since I was late the bicycle was my only option if I wanted to make school in time. Everything started well, had a good flow and was not even worried about getting late. But as we all know, young people have some weird plans every now and then. When i reached my regular cruising speed of 30kmh I figured that since i have biked this stretch so many times i could always just rest abit on my steering wheel. I mean its straight ahead for a long time so what could go wrong?
After finding a comfortable position on my steering wheel i kinda just closed my eyes and dosed of just for a few seconds. Turns out that this would be a problem for me later on.
I woke up to due to the fact that a giant construction machine(pictured under) had hit me right on the head. They had parked it a little bit into the road and had his "scrape" up. This specific part of the machine did hit my mouth, but my shoulder took most of the beating partially saving my mouth.
I got up and walked around abit, immediately noticing blood and that I could not feel my front teethes. At this point a passed out into the ditch, and woke up to the fact that an old neighbor was lifting me into his car.
At the emergency center they patched me up and sent me to the dentist which could confirm that both of my front teethes was crushed into smaller pieces and stuck in the roof of my mouth.
They did dig out the bits of teeth and also gave me some nice plastic replacements. Usually I would have said that this was no biggie, but in this specific case Ill be honest and say it did hurt like hell. I do not like needles so even the part where they gave me shots to take away the pain was horrible. I guess the combination of needles, drama, pain and dentist tool sounds just is to much for me.
Now 10 years after I am about to replace my plastic and put in porcelain, so in few months ill be back stronger than ever. (Priceless they might say, well this time the price is close to 1900€ so someone is for sure getting rich on others mistakes.)
This post does not really have a purpose other than explaining my past bicycle experience. I do not feel this will be a problem considering the upcomming race since its offroad over mountains..?

Updates!
Written by Tiny Terry
It's been a few days since we decided to do this, and I must admit that the more I think about it, the more expensive it gets.....
Equipment needed:
Bike
Bike computer (with pulse meter and GPS)
Helmet
Clothing
Drinking
Hydration Pack (ala CamelBak)
Good back pack for our bacon explosion and champagne!
Registration fee
Insurance (license)
This is what we got so far:
Andreas: Got his bike already (temporary)
Tsair: Waiting for his bike to arrive (temporary)
Ralf: Well, he just found out that there are a few hills in the course....
Andreas is also showing off his googling skills, and are looking into training plans etc.
Plans:
We are looking into putting up a more extensive and interactive blog, and are trying to figure out what what domain to register (write your suggestions in the comment field).
Since winter is coming up, we need some alternative indoor training as well. This is probably going to be badminton, football and a few hours in the gym.
Tour de Helsingborg is still in planning, but hopefully, we'll figure out the course soon.
Next important date: 04th November 2009 - 09.00 - Registration for the race
There's going to be a big meeting (with the three of us) to discuss further plans and eat fårikål this weekend!
The course
Written by Freaking Frank
Luckily I only see the diner signs for now, but I guess when the race is getting closer I will start to see how stupid the plan really is.
Big PDF map:
To do list:
- Get a bike
- Get a helmet
- Get 3.5kg bacon to put in a backpack (regulations)
- Limit the alcohol/smoking abuse somewhat (or find healthy cigarettes/beer)
- Figure out a way to get in shape without doing to much of an effort
- Lower wind resistance
- Talk down to everyone else (staying positive to the project is important)
- Refuse to take any advices
I have probably forgotten a few things, but since we have a whole year to do this i figure we have time to catch up.
To be honest I could probably climb mount everest after one years preparation so this should be a walk in the park.
What did I just do?
Written by Tiny Terry
OK! I am the first to admit that I might be a little bit over-ambitious and this is probably not the smartest thing I have ever done.
A little background:
For the past couple of months, I have wanted to get back in shape (probably around 10 years since last time I was in shape), but I get easily bored, and am not able to train without some kind of goal/purpose/direction.
I love football and we tried to play on a weekly basis, but people quickly started to drop out.
We have thought of other kinds physical activity to replace the football, and hopefully, we'll start with some badminton soon....
In a weak moment (might be some alcohol involved), I remembered reading about something called Birkebeinerrittet, a course of 91 km on a bicycle, starting in Rena and ending in Lillehammer. In my desire to do something outrageous and not something that I would usually do, I thought to myself that if I gave this a serious shot, I could be proud of myself (at least for trying if i don't complete).
Luckily (or unfortunately), I got a colleague sitting next to me, who has a big problem saying 'No' to stuff like this, and as soon as I told him my plans and asked if he wanted to join, it didnt take long before we both were stupid enough to come to an agreement.
We will try and update this blog throughout a year, about progress and what our plans are
Wish us luck!
