The race
Birkebeinerrittet is the worlds largest cross country bicycle race with 17 500 participants. The course is 94 km long, starting from Rena and ends in Lillehammer.
Profile of the course:
All the participants needs to carry a 3.5 kg back pack. This to symbolize the prince, Haakon Haakonsøn, who got carried over the mountains when he was 2 years old, during a civil war in Norway that started year 1200.
Types of race
Today, there are 3 types of races:
1. Birkebeinerrennet - Cross country skiing - Started in 1932 which has a course of 54 km
2. Birkebeinerrittet - Cross country cycling - Started in 1993
3. Birkebeinerløpet - Cross country running - Started in 1999 which has a course of 21 km

You do know I hate to be a party pooper, but I still have to tell you that all three of you are inevitably going to die horrible, incredibly painful (although more than a wee bit amuzing), completely off-the-chart, agonizing cross-country biking related deaths.
